but D-CAN works and is easy to get. most GT-1 Heads are only clones and expensive...

look at one-stops-electronic - that's the best D-CAN Interface

I would like to get to the newer BMWs too using one of these D-CAN USB cables. I have a cable which I need to configure first to D-CAN mode.

With this cable I successfully read out BMW model year 2008 with D-CAN. Now I tried to read out a new BMW model year 2012 with the same cable.

That did not work and I am sure it also has D-CAN.

Is there a "new" D-CAN, do I need yet another cable?

Many thanks to all the expert!

Default decan >>> moongoose

buy the mongoose from drewtech.com,it's $300, install the driver, install passthrud from bmwtis.com (version 3.0.56 did not work with ediabas 7.2,as it has files for 7.0) ,configure ediabas somehow, i forgot what files i have moved and where among passthrud folder and ediabas folder
i have it working with E-sys, and all BMW apps e.g inpa, ncs wikfp, toolset.
