Default Coding Noob setup question

I feel like I've googled and read for 8 hours but I'm having a little trouble and would really appreciate some help. I have the inpa and ediabas software installed successfully and it runs, I have the KKL Vagcom cable and have used ftprog to flip the signals since my cable chipset supports that, Windows 7 has the correct ftdi drivers and its seen as a serial converter and a com port on com 1. Where I've hit a wall is how to tell the software what com port my cable is on. I see info online about running bmw standard tools to do that but that did not come with my download. I also cannot find an obd.ini file, not sure if that should be there in Win7.

I'm ready to start working on my car , if anyone has some tips to share on how to fix this and where to get the bmw standard tools sw I would be eternally grateful! Thanks !

This is the only step I think that I have left:

7. Install BMW Tools
1. From the above extracted file set, find the file 'Step 1_ Install BMW Tools.exe', right-click on it and select 'Properties'.
2. Click on the Compatibility tab and change the dropdown to Windows XP SP3 as the Compatibility Mode, also tick 'Run As Administrator', then click 'Ok'
3. Double-click on the above file to start the installation.
4. Set the Destination Path C:\BMW Tools (Donít change this path - whatever it shows as leave it as that) -> 'Install' -> 'OK'.
5. Select 'English' -> 'Continue' -> 'Continue'.
6. Select 'C:' -> 'Continue'.
7. Select 'Skip' -> 'Next'
8. Accept the defaults for programs to update, then click 'Next'.
9. Select 'Com1', 'OBD' and 'USB to Serial Adapter' -> 'Continue' -> 'Continue'.
10. The installation will begin and complete.
