Question DIY for backup chip-tuned engine

Hi all,

I'm a rookie in the coding of BMW (owning an F10). I have recently installed the E-SYS and ISPA/P apps on a laptop and I was able to change some parameters. So far so good and quit straightforward, mostly because all of this is well documented here on the forum.

But now I plan to let a tuner chiptune my engine. Before doing so, I would like to take a backup of the existing setup before the tuner starts messing around but I have no idea where to start...
Step two would be to be able to do the same once he did so and step 3 to be able to initialise back to original setup.

Is there a DIY available for this? Is this something I can do myself with ISTA/P?

Thanks for the input!

I wouldn't say I am an expert, but I have been making tweaks with ncs expert for a few years. I also have an icom and iasta p . I don't think you need to back up the existing software because you can re-program any ecu using iasta and it will re-set it to factory. This will wipe anything your chip tuner does. I would have thought you could back up a new map he may put on using winkfp. Any settings should be able to be backed up using ncs expert. It all depends what he is modifying. I am assuming the main engine ecu.
