Question e39 DME related question

Hey everyone,
I've got a small issue with the DME on a e39 (2003 BMW 525i). The car was in an accident and ever since it's been having trouble completing the secondary air and evap monitors, other than that it runs great. I just can't get it to pass smog. I got the idea into my head to do a DME, EWS and ignition lock swap with my e46 (2002 BMW 325Ci Convertible). Sure enough, the monitors on the e39 now come on just fine and the e46 is having trouble with the same two monitors.

Anyways, now I need to rewrite the vin number on the DME of the e46 to match the vin of the e39 in order for it to pass smog. Seems simple enough... right? I'm a mechanic but I'm completely new to the world of coding. I'm having some difficulty figuring out the best way to go about this. I have a laptop with Windows XP, a K+Dcan usb cable and am downloading INPA 5.0.2 as I type this.

I'd eventually like to try reflashing the DME completely to see if it resolves the monitor problem but I have no idea where to start with that.

SOoooo....... I guess this is a 2-part question.

1. How do I go about rewriting the vin on a e39/e46 DME?
2. What would I need to completely reflash the DME?
I hear talk of daten files and such but I'm not entirely sure which I need or where to get them.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Never mind, I figured it out. Both how to change the vin and how to reflash it completely (which solved the monitor problem). WinKFP is an amazing tool.
