Default e90 EKP coding question

Hi, My 2006 e90 325i won't start. I've traced it to a blown fuel pump fuse caused by a faulty EKP (replacement fuse blows immediately as I put it in). Question is can I replace EKP, then drive car to a shop for coding or will I need to tow car to shop because EKP will not work until it is coded? Thanks.
