Default Ews3 error_ecu_rejected

Hi experts,
X5 2004 E53 4.4i N62

Car won't start (no crank). INPA shows ERROR_ECU_REJECTED for ISN and Password parameters.

Problem started while working on an intermittent problem where engine would sometime run very rough and display engine failsafe mode on the dash. I was reasonably confident I found the issue to be a poor connection on the Integrated Supply Module (IVM). Wriggling one of the connectors to the IVM (the connector with pair of thick red wires) I could hear clicking in the engine bay.

Resoldered connections in the IVM and cleaned contact pins but then found car would not start (no crank).

What do you recommend to get this problem sorted?

I have AK90 tool - can this be used to fix the EWS?

Note that DME and EWS are original.

Update:
Tried re-writing to EWS using bin file first read from EWS unit. Now DME reports hard fault '27A4 DME: EWS3.3 interface engine' -> 'no EWS telegram'
