Default Help swapping e90 (2007) DME

Had my car in two shops for a no start issue (turns, won't start). The second shop deduced that DME is sending faulty output to injectors creating overly rich environment. So now I am going down the trail of swapping in a used DME.

Here is what I've come up with for necessary equip:
- Donor/used DME w/ matching part number (Siemens MSV80)
- BMW E/F Scanner

Necessary steps (as far I know):
- Install donor DME
- Read ISN from donor DME
- Write donor ISN to CAS
- Write original VIN to donor DME (maybe this is done automagic during synch?)
- Realignment/synchronization

Am I oversimplifying? Is anyone familiar w/ the E/F Scanner (BMW Explorer SW)? I'm also picking up a hitag2 since I only have one key for this car and would like another one. From what I've read I will need a CAS dump (which E/F scanner supposedly will do) to be able to program a new key, but can I also just use an existing used key and force CAS to recognize it?

Any advice, help, commentary is greatly appreciated. I really just want to get the car running :/

i am also interested in knowing more about this because i have a water damaged MSD80 DME from a 2007 335i. from what i've gathered is to read the ISN from the doner DME and re write that vin to the CAS. apparently it wont matter that the DME will have a different VIN number
