Default Where Do I Start

Hello to all...from a newbie. I just purchase an awesome BMW 535i and can't wait to learn how to code it. So, I am looking for the basic ABC of where and how to start coding. What cable do I need (a link to a specific on on Amazon or ebay would be helpful) and what software do I need (link again). Thanks in advance!

To help you out, I purchased this: [Only for registered users... ]

Coding is not easy, in fact I find myself in the same boat after installing all the software (as successfully as I can tell) but interfacing with my car has proven more challenging that I expected. Installing on Windows 8 seems like it was a bad idea as NCSExpert will not run...

One thing I'm looking for is a way to initially 'check' that my coding platform is sound, before I get into all the details of actually coding. What is the best way to go about this/

Thanks in advance!
