Default Camshaft sensor, exhaust.

Hi all! My E87 with N46 engine (120i) started showing the amber engine light. A fault code readout shows p0366 (2b63) camshaft sensor, exhaust. A sensor replacement made no difference. Cleaned the vanos and swapped position - no difference. The car starts and runs as usual. The car has done 100.000miles. BMW suggest changing the chain. Is that guaranteed to solve the problem? Any suggestions much appreciated.
Best regards Christian

Default

By the way:
At the bmw garage at idle when hooked up to the diagnostic computer:
It shows the Vanos position stuck at 120.0 for the exhaust while the intake is working - fine tuning plus/minus 0.xx
