Default m52 swap nightmare

1997 328is with a dead m52 motor
purchased a 1995 motor from a 325i, m50

My plan was to reuse all of the original wiring, sensors, coil packs and valve cover etc.

Everything was perfect and mounted up and bolted in perfectly.

Keep in mind that basically the only parts I changed were the block and head, reused all existing wiring and took all sensors off bad motor (m52) and put on new (m50)

The only problem I have is that the m52 Crank Position Sensor was mounted in the block of the old motor (m52) and the m50 block does not have this hole in it.

The m50 had it mounted in the front of the motor on the timing cover.

Can I use the old one at the front of the motor.????????

Ouch! That hurts! Yeah, those sensors are different. Square wave vs. round....digital vs. analog. Probably isn't going to work for you. I'm wondering if you could find an application that uses a 3 wire CKP that would mount where you need it to? I'll look around and see if I can find any promising apps.

Thanks for the reply. I used the one from the obd2 motor and mounted it on the timimg chain cover . I did have to modify the mounting of the sensor.
Fired right up and runs great! Now if I could only clear the O2 sensor code I would be good to go.
