Default Tempomat Cruise control signals

Does anyone here know how the signal is from the Tempomat control unit in the steereing wheel to the DDE4 ECU ?
There is a single wire from the steering wheel to the ECU.
Is there only an analog signal or is it some kind of digital signal?

This is on E39.
