Smile X5 E53 2003 transmission problem related to steering angle sensor.

So today my steering angle sensor has shit itself and has caused an issue with the gearbox (starts and moves in gear and won't shift). Cleared the codes and the 2 remain are LWS (steering angle sensor no identification) and electronic braking force distribution. The gearbox is still in the above mode. Any suggestions? Should I replace my steering angle sensor and re-calibrate using ISTA or DIS? Will this restore my gearbox shift functions if this is the culprit? The stupid sensor seems to be on the same CAN line as the AGS and the DSC, it seems if one module shits itself the rest corrupt, such a poor engineering from BMW. Would be really stoked if anyone can chime in? Cheers.
