Default N52 valvetronic relearn

Hello. I have just replaced my vvt motor and valve cover. It first runs fine but after stop and re start it runs rough again.
What tools you recommend to relearn the limits. I was a vag guy until found bmw tools are way more difficult to install or use. I came across ista but it seems difficult. Some portable scanners such as foxwell's are useful for this? What would you recommend for achieving relearn limit travel of vvt motor?.
Dont have any indy shop or steslership close to me.
