Default hello from Ireland

I feel a bit like a butcher joining a plastic surgeons forum. I am much more familiar with all things mechanical but nowadays cars depend so much more on computer interrogation/coding for there correct operation and fault diagnosis. I got a lend of a.laptop with inpa and carsoft set up on it ,to trouble shoot a cam sensor/vanos issue I am having. I will stick a thread on it to go into greater detail showing my results. The long and the short of it is will I be able to determine from doing the vanos tests that it's my cam sensor, vanos, solenoid, or dme is at fault, can't afford to needlessly replace parts that are operational. I have a cheap elm 327 that threw up a p0365 fault which I replaced the exhaust cam sensor which didnt clear the fault. Car is an 01 e39 with the 2.2 m54 engine.
